This moment was not about “finally getting married.”

It’s been almost a month since we had to ugly cry our way through the series finale of Issa Rae’s best-show-ever Insecure (and the hour long documentary on the making of the show that HBO so generously gave us the same night), and I still can’t stop thinking about Molly’s wedding dress.

Maybe you too spent season one and beyond irritated as hell about Molly’s boringly outdated and suffocatingly heteronormative assumptions and intentions for her romantic life. Ms. Carter was determined to find the perfect partner who would instantly do and be all the things without a single misstep; all the while notably uninterested or unable to make herself tender and vulnerable to just about anyone.

I have never so strongly adored an actress — and author of Bamboozled By Jesus, which is one of the most insightful and motivational books by a comedienne ever penned — whose character drove me so crazy.

While I do not blame Molly in full for the dumpster fire that was the Dro drama, what insanity was the bisexual Jared situation; and does anyone remember why on earth she let Asian Bae Andrew walk? That said, until decent and for real real Taurean came along, the only truly great match — albeit platonic — we ever saw for Molly was her best friend Issa Dee.
